You may experience stress for any number of reasons, at any given time without warning. It affects everyone, and every person has their own way that works best to handle their stress. Often, your stress-relief methods may fail and you must find new strategies to try. There are a wide variety of methods for decreasing anxiety.

Try to pre-plan for the day ahead the night before. This will be one less thing to worry about and will reduce the stress you feel when get up in the morning. By getting your clothes ready or preparing your lunch the night before, you'll save time and feel less anxious about your day.

Unclench your jaw and try to avoid grinding your teeth together. Different people allow stress to manifest itself in different areas of the body. For many people, stress affects the jawline. If you're feeling stressed, press your jaw with the index finger, take a deep breath in, clench, release your breath and your jaw. This should relieve some of the stress and help you feel better.

Try to come up with affirmation, which is a short and encouraging statement. If you repeat this statement you can overcome your stress. Keep reminding yourself that you are strong enough to handle this and to just calm down. Choose whatever will make you feel better.

Don't use the word "stress" so much. Continually talking or thinking about any condition, whether it's hunger or stress, can tend to make it even more bothersome and intense. Using the word, either out loud or in your head, will just make you more stressed, so find a substitute and use it instead.

When you are very stressed, watch for areas of your body that you clench. Common areas include your teeth, finger, shoulders and lower back. If you can identify these tensed-up area, you should get in the habit of gently stretching these muscle groups as you feel yourself becoming stressed. This is a great way to reduce your stress levels and leave you feeling relaxed.

Getting stress to the point where it doesn't affect you that much, takes a lot of preparation and a lot of soul-searching. It's possible, if you keep in mind that you control your thoughts and that stress is only a visitor. Don't let stress stay and you'll be a happier person very soon.
